Where the Fish are and How to Catch 'Em!
Pike: Pike fishing has taken a back
seat to bass and walleye this week! Still some fish being
reported, try Penetang Bay, Hogs Bay and Sturgeon Bay.
Top Lure: Husky Jerk (#10 or #12), red spinnerbaits
Walleye: Snake Island has been the best spot so far
this season. Try Tomahawk Island, Present and Methodist
too. Walleye are relating heavily to weed cover - look for
a weedy drop off and hold on! Fish are being taken at
about 17'-18'.
Top Lure: worm harnesses (orange, chartreuse, red)
with bottom bouncer or walking sinker, Husky Jerk (#8 or
#10), chartreuse jighead and a worm (you gotta jig it!)
Trout/Salmon: Salmon are fewer and definitely
smaller so far this year, but they're out there! Try
Mark's Pt., Methodist Pt. in 70' of water and about 60'
down. If you're not getting the salmon, move down to the
bottom and you'll get the Lakers!
Top Lure: Trout - NK Flasher spoons, Salmon - Pink,
Purple NK28's, Lyman Lures
Bass: The bass are still shallow in about 8' - 10'
of water. Look for the weed/rock transitions in Honey
Harbour, Waubashene, Hogs (largemouth) or Sturgeon Bay
Top Lure: Sherbos/Slinkos, Slim Jims/Scuttle Worms,
Craw Tubes or Salttubes: green pumpkin, watermelon
composite colours are working best; Spinnerbaits: white,
white/chartreuse; Strike King Wild Thangs!
