10.48 lb Walleye Josh Stevens
18.15 lb Pike Backwater Ice Hut
1.15 lb Perch Aaron Cutter
2.15 lb Crappie Steven Chong
8.145 lb Whitefish Terry Smith
3.56 lb Herring Backwater Ice Hut
Where the Fish are and How to Catch 'Em
Walleye: Waubaushene has been on fire, every morning or between about 3pm and 7pm. Jigging seems to be the best technique, but don't count out the real large emerald shiner on a hook. There have been a few fish at Hoggs, Sturgeon and Midland taken as well
Top Lure: Buckshot Spoon, Rapala jig minnow & shad, Emerald shiners
Pike: There has been a large number of pike taken this year. Live bait has been the key but NOT TOO BIG! Spoons are working, Williams, etc. Hogg's Bay has been good, Sturgeon Bay, Penetang, Honey Harbour and Gloucester Pool have all produced big fish.
Top Lure: Williams Jig Spoons, Large Emerald shiner
Perch: Perch have been good, not many jumbos, but some nice size perch. Magazine Is. (Penetang Bay), Sandy Bay & Midland Bay have all been good. Most of the fish have come from either 6' to 8' or 25' to 35'.
Top Lure: Gypsi Jig, Tear Drop
Crappie: The same "old" holes have been producing but not ona very consistent basis...50 one day and nothing the next. The schools of fish seem to be moving all the time. Tea Lake, Gloucester Pool, Six Mile, Gibson Lake and South Bay have all been producing. You just have to move and keep on them. Vary the depth you're fishing - some days they move up and down.
Top Lure: Tear drop, Gypsi Jig, meal worms, Berkley Power Maggots
Herring/Whitefish: The herring are in Midland Bay. Lots of fish and some really big ones. The depth most of the fish are at is between 12' and 18' below the ice. The spoon with a Gypsi jig is out producing everything! Set your second line right on bottom with a 3-way spreader and the whitefish should come!
Top Lure: Northland Buckshot Spoon & Gypsi Jig, 3-way Spreader
