Where the Fish are and How to Catch 'Em
Pike: The pike fishing has been AWESOME!! A
lot of fish are still very shallow. 4' to 8' of
water. Very erratic presentation will put fish in
the boat or on the shore! Hoggs Bay, Honey Harbour,
bottom end of Penetanguishene Bay have all been good
spots with lots of fish reported. Top Lure:
Rapala Husky Jerk, "new" Rapala X-Rap, Williams
Wabler
Walleye: The walleye have been great! Early
morning & early evening have been prime time! But
most of the "big" fish have been taken between 10 am
and 2pm. Lots of fish over the 22 inch range. The
fish are growing into keepable size - don't forget
the fish in the 16" to 22" range have to go back.
Waubaushene, Sturgeon Bay, Gore Rock & Hillbank have
all been great spots for numbers of fish.
Top Lure: Multi-coloured jigheads tip with a
leech or worm, worm harnesses
Trout: Still some great river fishing to be
had: Coldwater & Sturgeon have been great - don't
forget about the Hogg River & Lafontaine Creek! The
trolling has been great out off Balm Beach. Long
line trolling with body baits have put some big
rainbows on the banks and on the boat!!!
Top Lure: Rapala X-Rap (Hot Orange), Little
Cleo, Rapala F13 Orange
Crappie: There are still some great crappie
opportunities out there. Try anywhere where there
are some docks. The fish have moved into areas where
there is some cover!!!
Top Lure: Gypsi jig, Tear drop under a pencil
float, worms
